Queer Women Ottawa (Q.W.O.) is a social group for queer women.

 

Queer is a term that has been reclaimed to be all inclusive referring to gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, two-spirit and queer (GLBTTQ) individuals. Q.W.O. is specifically for women who identify as queer or are queer friendly. We welcome women of all age groups, lifestyles, marital statuses, race, etc – in short we welcome women from all walks of life, and the more the merrier.

 

We aim to provide an alternative option for socializing with other queer women other than the bar and club scene. We plan on having a wide array of events from general social meetings at a coffee shops, private parties, etc...

 

The general gatherings are open to queer and queer friendly women of all ages, lifestyles, marital statuses, and race. At the moment all the general socials are at Second Cup at the corner of Rideau and Dalhousie.

 

The poly queer women’s gathering is open to queer and queer friendly women who are either in a polyamorous relationship, prefer polyamorous relationships, or curious about the polyamorous lifestyle. We are holding the poly queen women’s socials at Raw Sugar Cafe on Somerset West. I am starting up a social group for queer women, and we have a themed gathering once a month for those of us who are poly. :)

I'm looking for locations in Ottawa, preferably in the downtown core, that is poly and queer friendly. I'm hoping for places that don't serve alcohol, and where people can maintain a conversation without having to shout. :) Do any of you know of any such places?

My name is Lisa, I'm 27 and gay. I have a small, quiet, well behaved dog named Tommy. I just moved to Ottawa September 1rst from Cornwall and the roommate who I thought was going to be a cool and open-minded person ends up to have some sort of undiagnosed narcissistic mental problem. She's one of those people that if it's not about her she gets jealous and acts like a spoiled child. I'm not going to get into the whole situation as it's not necessary but suffice it to say I think I need to move. I don't really want to move because I like the area and the apartment I'm living in but her name is on the lease so..

About me: I'm an easygoing person. I pretty much do my own thing. I walk my dog and am looking for a job right now. I also just started dating a lovely woman. I am a self proclaimed geek as I love the interwebs *hugs it* Also I love to read and watch T.V. and movies. I paint, draw, write and video edit as hobbies. I clean up after myself, do my own dishes, pay my rent on time and am a good conversationalist if there ever is the need.

I'm currently living in the west end not too far from Lincoln Fields. I just want to live somewhere that I can be myself without judgment or childish behaviour. Maturity, open-mindedness, respect and honesty is what I'm looking for in a roommate. I can afford $400 a month for rent, $450 max. Any suggestions for a good hair stylist in the downtown/Sandy Hill area of Ottawa?

Another exciting women's roller derby game will be shaking things up in the capital on Saturday July 11th at J.A. Dulude Arena (941 Clyde Ave)

The bout, entitled "Slaughter in the City" is presented by local league; the Rideau Valley Roller Girls (RVRG) who will pit their team; the Slaughter Daughters versus The Thames Fatales (London, ON) in an exciting battle of hits, wits, strategy and speed.

This game comes close on the heals of a big win in Toronto for the team and just over a month after a near sell-out crowd of 800 attended the last RVRG home game that was help on May 30th.

Tickets to the "Slaughter in the City" roller derby game are available in advance for $10 from a slew of retail locations (listed www.rideauvalleyrollergirls.com) or for $12 at the door.

Roller Derby is a full-contact sport involving competitive roller skating on four-wheeled skates around an oval track in a counter clockwise direction.

This is an open call to all artists that self-identify as transsexual, transgender, trans, genderqueer, gender-variant, gender non-conforming, agender, drag king, drag queen, drag, MTF, and/or FTM.

A new monthly night in Montreal, QC called I Want Your Sex Too! is starting up soon.  The idea for this night is twofold: first, it will be a fundraiser for local trans peoples' surgeries/hormones/basic transition costs.  Second, it will be a cultural space by and for trans/gender variant folk to showcase our art and to sustain our own communities

The first one is scheduled for Saturday, July 25th, 2009 at Le Mystique. For the first one, a silent auction is being organized so please get in touch at iwantyoursextoo@gmail.com if you would like to donate a piece of art: a photo, a painting, a drawing, a sculpture, a zine, etc.

Also, please get in touch if you would like to host, perform, DJ, work a shift at the door, design a flyer, bake some cupcakes to sell at the night, or anything else you can think of. 

Keep in mind that this will be a monthly event so, if you're not able to in July, and want to propose something for future months, feel free to contact me.

Hello! I was wondering if people could point me to stores in Ottawa that sell prosthetic adhesives. I'd prefer the store location to be in the East end or downtown, if possible. Do larger chain stores sell them (Zellers, Walmart, etc)? I'm looking to craft a fake goatee. Any and all help is appreciated!
